Part of our work involves keeping records of red and grey squirrel sightings and for the conservation we do to protect red squirrels. If you are a member of the public and have seen a red or grey squirrel, you can report your sighting here>>
For those of you carrying out grey control and monitoring, this page offers some background information on recording and reporting your figures, and the RSNE recording form is available to download.
There are alternative simplified recording forms in Word supplied for those doing grey control who find Excel difficult.
Clicking on the icons below will allow you download the files to your computer, although computers and browsers differ in the way this is achieved – some files may need a double click.
This document gives background information on record-keeping, including how and when to submit your records and help to find grid references.
Red Squirrels Northern England’s recording form – decluttered version
This form is the same as the original version of the RSNE form in Excel, but it’s easier to enter your data as the instructions and examples have been removed. Should you wish to refer to the instructions and examples, the original RSNE form is given in the second tab in the Excel workbook. If you have been trapping and shooting at the same location, you will need to record each method on a different row of data.
Westmorland Red Squirrels – simplified single-site grey control recording form in Word
This simple form is designed for those doing grey control at only one location – usually on their own property. It allows for a whole year’s monthly cull data to be collected on one page and avoids the need for repetition. If an extra ‘rough’ copy is printed out, the comments column can be used to keep a handwritten running tally of squirrels caught.
This Word version is included for those who are able to complete and submit the form electronically. It may not reproduce properly on some computers and devices – please get in touch if you’d like the form in an earlier version of Word.
Westmorland Red Squirrels – simplified multiple-site grey control recording form in Word
This form is to record basic monthly cull data for those doing grey control at more than one location. It has been provided as a Word version for those not familiar with Excel spreadsheets. Once entered, the place names and grid references can be copied and pasted to use in subsequent months. If an extra ‘rough’ copy is printed out, the comments column can be used to keep a handwritten running tally of squirrels caught in the month.
This Word version can be used to complete and submit electronically. It may not reproduce properly on some computers and devices – please get in touch if you’d like the form in an earlier version of Word. Take care when printing to specify the number pages required. The form is set up with 4 pages to fill with data, and more pages can be added by inserting extra lines in the table.
